First CELT Community Champions Meeting

The first meeting of our CELT Community Champions Chairs is an exciting milestone in developing our new local-tier governance model.

Community Champions have now been launched in several of our schools, with their core purpose being to provide a meaningful and representative community voice - from parents, carers, staff, learners, and the wider community - feeding directly into the Board of Trustees.

Our Community Champions draw on their expert knowledge of local contexts to understand what matters most to learners, families, staff, and community stakeholders. They actively challenge assumptions and help ensure that each school remains explicitly rooted in its community. This work will play a vital role in improving attendance, engagement and outcomes.

We were thrilled to have representation from Fowey Primary School, Newquay Tretherras, Mevagissey Primary School, Port Isaac Academy and Bodmin College at the meeting and to hear how their initial Community Champion meetings have gone.

All groups reported a strong emphasis on student voice, and we were particularly impressed by how wholeheartedly Fowey has leaned into this new model. A standout theme emerging from their listening campaign was the desire for an improved club offer. We’re delighted that the summer term enrichment offer is now broader and more varied as a direct result of this feedback. Truly community-informed practice in action!

Thank you to all involved for your commitment, energy and passion for strengthening local voice across CELT.
