Creating Spaces to Thrive: CELT's Summer Investment in School Buildings

With the summer holidays providing a valuable window for improvement works, Cornwall Education Learning Trust (CELT) has been making significant investments across its schools to ensure learners and staff return to safe and inspiring learning environments this September.

Over the summer break, contractors and CELT estates teams have been hard at work delivering a programme of maintenance, refurbishment and capital improvement projects across the Trust's family of schools. The programme forms part of CELT's ongoing commitment to providing high-quality facilities that support teaching, learning and wellbeing.

This summer's projects have included classroom refurbishments, redecoration programmes and improvements to outdoor spaces. Essential maintenance work that would be difficult to carry out during term time has also been completed, helping to minimise disruption to learners while ensuring schools remain fit for the future.

A number of schools have benefited from improvements designed to enhance accessibility, making buildings more inclusive and welcoming for all members of their communities.

The summer programme represents a significant collaborative effort involving school leaders, contractors and the Trust's estates services staff. Careful planning throughout the academic year has enabled projects to be scheduled and delivered during the holiday period, ensuring that schools are ready for the start of the new term.

Jon Purshouse, Estates Services Lead at Cornwall Education Learning Trust, said:

"Our schools are at the heart of their communities, and providing high-quality learning environments for learners and staff is an important part of our mission. The summer holidays offer a vital opportunity to undertake improvement works that would be challenging to complete when schools are fully occupied."

"We are grateful to the colleagues, contractors and partners who have worked throughout the summer to deliver these projects. Their efforts will help ensure that learners return to welcoming, safe and engaging spaces where they can thrive."

Many schools have taken the opportunity to refresh classrooms, communal areas and outdoor learning environments. These improvements contribute to creating positive spaces that support both academic achievement and wellbeing.

The work undertaken this summer reflects CELT's long-term approach to maintaining and improving its estates. By investing in school buildings and infrastructure, the Trust is ensuring that facilities continue to meet the needs of current and future generations of learners.

While much of the activity has taken place behind the scenes, the impact will be visible when learners return for the new academic year. Refreshed classrooms, upgraded facilities and improved learning spaces will help create the best possible environment for education, supporting CELT's vision of enabling every child to have an exceptional educational experience.

As the countdown to September continues, schools across the Trust are preparing to welcome learners and staff back through their doors. Thanks to months of planning and weeks of dedicated work, the new term will begin with improvements already making a positive difference to school communities across Mid-Cornwall.
