More than 1,000 Students Celebrate GCSE Success across CELT Schools

More than 1,000 young people across Mid-Cornwall are celebrating their GCSE results today as Cornwall Education Learning Trust (CELT) reports strong outcomes across its schools.

A total of 8,833 qualification grades were awarded across five secondary schools, spanning 48 different qualifications. They achieved an average Attainment 8 score of 46, which means students gained an average grade of 4.6 across their best eight GCSE and equivalent qualifications.

Over three-quarters of students achieved a Grade 4 or above in English whilst over two-thirds achieved this in Maths. CELT schools matched national figures and Cornwall figures.

Students earned 329 Grade 9s and Level 2 Distinction*s. They also secured almost 2,000 grades of 7 or above across the five secondary schools.

These results reflect the determination students showed throughout their studies, alongside the support they received from families, teachers and school staff.

Disadvantaged students also delivered strong performances. Across the Trust, 69 per cent achieved a Grade 4 or above in English and 61% in Maths. Whilst they also achieved an average grade of 4.3.

Individual schools have plenty to celebrate.

Bodmin College continued its upward trajectory with its third consecutive year of improvement. 68.2% of students achieved grades 4–9 in both English and Maths, showing a significant increase on previous outcomes, from 45.1% in 2023.

Dan Morrow, Trust Leader at Cornwall Education Learning Trust, said:

"Today is a day to celebrate the achievements of every learner across our schools. Behind every result stands a young person who has shown determination and commitment to their learning.

"We are especially pleased to see disadvantaged students continue to achieve strong outcomes. These qualifications open doors to further education, training and employment and give young people the confidence and opportunities they need for the future.

"I would also like to thank our staff and families. Their encouragement and support play a vital role in helping young people succeed."

Students will now progress to a wide range of destinations, including sixth forms, colleges, apprenticeships and employment, as they take the next steps towards their chosen careers.
