Students, families and staff celebrate GCSE results across mid-Cornwall.
Cornwall Education Learning Trust is celebrating the achievements of over 1,000 students on GCSE results day, with outcomes reflecting individual dedication and determination and the Trust’s continued commitment to providing an exceptional educational experience for all.
This year, students across CELT schools achieved above national average attainment scores in their best eight GCSE or equivalent subjects, with an average grade of 4.7, a significant rise from 4.4 in 2024. Two-thirds (66%) of students secured Grade 4 or higher in both English and Maths, in line with national benchmarks and well above Cornwall’s average.
Among the 1,119 students who sat their exams this summer, an impressive 398 Grade 9 or Level 2 Distinction* were achieved. In addition, nearly 2,000 top grades (7 and above) were awarded, highlighting the commitment, hard work, and resilience of CELT’s young people.
Disadvantaged learners across the Trust also excelled, securing grades 4+ (60%) and 5+ (42%) in English and Maths, with an average Attainment 8 score of 44.6. These strong outcomes reflect CELT’s unwavering belief that every student, regardless of background, should have access to the opportunities that good qualifications provide. Across schools, students benefit from high-quality teaching, a broad and rich curriculum, and meaningful pastoral care needed to thrive.
Poltair School has surpassed all expectations, improving the number of students achieving both Maths and English at a standard pass Grade 4+ by 16% and strong Grade 5+ by 18%. This will enable many more young people to move on to their next steps of education.
Bodmin College has also achieved exceptionally well, improving the number of students achieving both Maths and English at a strong pass Grade 5 by 13% on top of a 9% leap forward from 2023, resulting in the number of young people achieving a strong pass Grade 5 in both English and Maths doubling since 2023.
Students from Brannel School have achieved exceedingly high grades, with strong achievements in English and Maths. These outstanding results surpass previous years, setting a new benchmark for the school.
Penrice Academy celebrates another fantastic year with the greatest increase in students achieving top grades. The number of Grade 7s increased by 7%, taking the number of students achieving Grade 7s and higher to well above national averages.
Almost 70% of Newquay Tretherras students achieved a Grade 4 or higher in Maths and English this year, with 41% being awarded a Grade 7 or higher. High grades were also awarded in creative subjects, including Art, Drama and Photography.
These incredible results are a testament to the commitment, resilience and dedication of students, staff and families across the Trust community.
Dan Morrow, Trust Leader at Cornwall Education Learning Trust, said:
“We are incredibly proud of all our students and staff who are celebrating these fantastic results today. Our mission is to ensure every young person has the best possible educational experience, enabling them to achieve their full potential, and we are delighted to see our students excelling.
“Today’s results show that our disadvantaged learners are thriving and are leaving school with outcomes that give them real choice and opportunity for their next steps. We look forward to seeing them all continue on their successful educational journeys in the future.”
