Risk Assessment

Risk assessment is a common requirement of much health and safety legislation, emphasising a proactive approach (Plan, Do, Check, Act) to prevent accidents and work-related ill health rather than a reactive approach involving improving safety standards after an incident.

What are we trying to prevent?

  • Accidents causing injury or death
  • Near misses (because they could well cause injury if they happen again)
  • Work-related ill health
  • Repetitive/accumulated strain injuries
  • Damage to equipment and the environment
  • Stress-related ill health and other mental health problems

Risk Assessments should be completed for all our activities (done by employees, pupils or both) from, management of our sites, to curriculum activities,  wraparound clubs, off-site visits and outdoor education.

Risk assessment is a line management responsibility usually delegated to those most familiar (typically senior leaders, department/faculty heads, curriculum, area technicians or activity leads) with the activity, project, or equipment being assessed.

Risk assessments are generally completed using the Cornwall Council online risk assessment system AssessNET for which you can request an account by contacting healthandsafety@celtrust.org

You can also find training videos on how to use AssessNET and other guidance in the CELT H&S Pack area for Risk Assessment.

ELT staff can also attend in house online AssessNET Training.  Our expert-led sessions are designed to help you and your team confidently navigate the system, from risk assessments to incident reporting and compliance tracking.

Whether you're new to AssessNET or looking to sharpen your skills, this training ensures you're getting the most out of every feature.
